Out with a concussion and unable to string together more than a half hour on the computer (and having deplorable handwriting) was in a bit of a creative holding pattern. Then I got an idea. I wanted to put the adage "a picture is worth a thousand words" to the test.
So, I posted a picture that I took on my iPhone and asked people to each send me one hundred words on what they saw. Once I had a thousand words submitted I would then arrange them to form a complete piece. My rules were simple: lend me a hundred words, and only using the complete sentences rearrange the submissions to make a unified work of fiction, the result of which would be the thousand words that the picture was effectively "worth".
After a bit of a slow start the idea really started to take off, with support and submissions coming in faster than I could keep up with . In less than 24 hours I had received more than a thousand words, plus a few submissions after I had already started editing the final piece together.
So, I posted another picture, and decided I'd make this into something bigger and a lot less self-serving. The response on the second picture is not as great as the first one but I am hoping to put this website together in such a way that this evolves naturally and becomes an ongoing project - all the while using the interest in this idea and the words people graciously lend me to raise money and awareness for worthy charitable causes.
Thank you for reading, and if you can spare a minute take a look at the latest picture and lend me some words, a hundred at a time.
